INA, Ill. (June 19, 2014) – Emily Culbreth, a recent graduate from Benton Consolidated High School, signed a national letter of intent to play for the Rend Lake College Lady Warrior tennis team yesterday, becoming the fifth member of the 2014-15 team.
Culbreth started playing tennis five years ago during a summer program and hasn’t looked back since. After a trying senior year with the Rangerettes, she said she’s looking forward to getting back on track with the RLC team and playing with her friends.
“A bunch of my friends joined the team last year and they all really enjoyed it,” said Culberth. “I was planning on coming to Rend Lake College anyway, but then Coach Junkins recruited me. I think it’ll be a lot of fun.”
At RLC, Culbreth is planning to major in Elementary Education. She is already on track to transfer to Southern Illinois University Carbondale after graduation.
RLC Tennis Coach Dave Junkins said the 2014-15 team is shaping up to be a good one in both skill and academics.
“I’ve heard from everyone I’ve talked to that Emily is a really positive, hard-working player who will do anything to improve on her game,” said Junkins. “She’s definitely going to help the program this year. We’re also focusing on being good students as well as athletes this year, and I think she’ll be a good addition.”
