Working licensed practical nurses interested in moving up to registered nurse have the opportunity to enroll in a hybrid program through Rend Lake College and ConnectSI. Five entrance exam dates have been set for qualified applicants.
The Psychological Services Bureau exam for entrance into the Southern Illinois Online Nursing Initiative will be offered at Rend Lake College on three dates: Wednesday, Aug. 31; Tuesday, Sept. 13; Wednesday, Sept. 14; Thursday, Sept. 22; and Tuesday, Sept. 27. The test will be administered at 8:30 a.m. each day. There is a $30 testing fee.
According to information from ConnectSI, SIONI is the centerpiece of the region's "Grow Your Own" strategy. The program is a hybrid-online Associate Degree Nursing program that has been designed for working licensed practical nurses. The goal was to develop a program that would provide working (incumbent) nurses who have strong ties to the region an opportunity to advance their education and become registered nurses. Incumbent worker programs often offer employers matching funds to lower the cost of providing education to their employees, which results in higher skilled and more valuable employees.
