INA, Ill. – Rend Lake College Dinner Theatre tickets will start selling Nov. 7. This year’s production is the musical revue “Starting Here, Starting Now” by Richard Maltby and David Shire. Shows are at 7 p.m., Dec. 2 and 3, and at 1 p.m., Dec. 4.
The show is directed by Sara Alstat, who is now in her seventh year as head of the music department at RLC. For this year’s installment, Alstat has traded the lore and crowns of past Madrigal RLC Dinner Theatre for top hats and the timeless story of love and relationships.
“I chose the musical revue “Starting Here, Starting Now” to showcase the many talents of our students,” Alstat explained. “Maltby & Shire have created a show that is entertaining for all audience members. The absolutely gorgeous melodic lines and witty, endearing lyrics – combined with lots of crowd interaction – create a musical experience that will not be forgotten. Add an elegant meal catered by Seasoning Bistro and this will be a night of entertainment you can’t miss!”
For the first time in more than 30 years, students can major in music at RLC. There are currently 20 students working toward an Associate of Fine Arts degree in Music.
“Starting Here, Starting Now” will feature RLC students Kent Almaroad (Dix), Jayne Ballantyne (Pinckneyville), Sara Barnett (Benton), Blythe Lee Brown (Mt. Vernon), Braden Downs (Carlinville), Chris Eskew (Mt. Vernon), Katelyn Hammons (Mt. Vernon), Lyndsey Hammons (Mt. Vernon), Levi Overturf (Mt. Vernon), Kaitlyn Ritchenson (Oxford, Mich.), Kathleen Sledge (Mt. Vernon), Kenzy Stanley (Fairfield) and Troy Stickel (Benton). Musicians for the show are Michael Dauby (Springerton) and Caitlin Luckett (Freeburg). “Working with these 13 cast members has been an incredible experience,” said Alstat. “Having earned a MM in Musical Theatre, my love has always been on the stage. Directing this show has allowed me to work with each student on an individual basis in addition to sharing my own musical theatre experiences. It’s amazing to watch my students grow musically and emotionally during each and every rehearsal. This is why you become a teacher. This is why I have one of the best jobs in the world.”
Tickets are $25 per person, which includes the show and dinner, catered by Seasoning Bistro in Benton – owned and operated by RLC alumni Katie Karcher and Troy Ray.
