INA, Ill. – Rend Lake College is now offering Fundamentals of Music (MUSI 1109-N1) as an online class this summer. No textbook is required.
“This course starts at the very beginning,” said RLC Music Director Sara Alstat. “You will learn how to read music notation such as notes, rhythms, time signatures and chords, and you will learn the beginning steps of writing music and becoming a composer. No previous music experience is needed!”
Fundamentals of Music is a course recommended for Elementary and Special Education majors.
“As an elementary or special education teacher, you may be required to teach a unit on music,” Alstat explained. “This course will prepare you for that situation.”
MUSI 1109 - Fundamentals of Music is taught by Larry Phifer, who has 43 years experience teaching music in schools and has played in three semi-professional orchestras, including 30 years with the Paducah Symphony.
