RLC alumnus Wilkerson becomes RLC's seventh president
The board approved the hiring of Terry Wilkerson as Rend Lake College President effective July 1. Wilkerson currently is the Applied Science and Technology Division Chair for RLC and formerly served as an instructor in the college's Agriculture program. Allen seated as Student Trustee
Kelsey Allen (Bonnie) was seated as the student member of the Board of Trustees for the 2012-2013 academic year. Allen is a sophomore majoring in Agricultural Production and Management. She replaces outgoing Student Trustee Caleb Buntin, who was recognized by the board Tuesday with a plaque for his year of service.
Board Chair Bryan Drew said Buntin has been "an excellent voice for the student body" over the past year and has done an excellent job. Buntin said, "I have enjoyed the opportunity I have been given. I've been privileged to meet all of you."
New certificates, courses approved
The board approved six new certificates and several new courses Tuesday and authorized their submission to the Illinois Community College Board for action. The new certificates are Green Facilities Management, Sustainable Design, Phlebotomy, Graphic Web Design, Truck Driver Training and Heavy Equipment Transportation. The Green Facilities Management (GFM) and Sustainable Design (SDGB) certificates are part of the Illinois Green Economy Network Trade Adjustment Act grant recently awarded to RLC.
Several of the course approvals Tuesday were part of the GFM and SDGB curricula. GFM courses were Plan and Develop Green Facilities, Building Automation and Control Systems, Energy Modeling in Buildings, and Green Landscape and Grounds Management. SDGB courses were Foundations of Sustainable Building Design, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Sustainable Design, Sustainable Landscape Design, and Sustainable Design and Construction Project.
Several other new courses were approved Tuesday: Medical-Surgical Nursing I and II, Phlebotomy, Phlebotomy Practicum, Advanced Web Design, Paramedic Clinical I-III, Commercial Driver's License Review, Truck Driver Training I and II, and Greening Your Curriculum.
In addition, changes were approved and authorized for submission to ICCB to reflect credit hour changes and course additions to the Basic Machining Certificate, Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic Associate in Applied Science Degree and EMT – Paramedic occupational certificate.
Rushing to take reins of Financial Aid
Appointed Cheri Rushing as Director of Financial Aid effective July 1. She will replace long-time Director Doug Carlson, who is retiring June 30. Rushing has been Financial Aid Advisor at RLC since 1999 and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Central Missouri. She was the recipient of the 2008 RLC Foundation Outstanding Staff Award.
Howell joins Business Office staff
Appointed Mallory Howell as Business Office Accountant effective May 1. Howell holds a Master of Accountancy and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, both from Southern Illinois University, as well as Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science Degrees from Rend Lake College. She most recently was accountant and internal control officer for the Franklin-Williamson County Regional Office of Education.
