INA, Ill. (May 6, 2014) – Recess doesn’t have to end because school is out. Kids can stay active this summer with a series of Sports Camps at Rend Lake College covering basketball, softball, volleyball, dance, and cheer.
Girls Softball, for those entering or leaving grades 4-8, is scheduled for 1 – 4 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, June 4-6. RLC Softball Coach Dave Ellingsworth will teach campers the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, pitching and base running, as well as the mental aspects of the game. Students are asked to bring a glove and wear tennis shoes or rubber cleats; a bat and helmet are optional. The camp costs $50 and will be held at the RLC Softball Field in Ina.
Next up will be Girls Basketball Camp, scheduled for 1 – 4 p.m., Monday-Wednesday, June 9-11, for students entering or leaving grades 6-8. RLC Women’s Basketball Coach Ward McDaniel will have campers practice shooting, ball handling, passing, one-on-one defense, and rebounding. Youth should wear gym shorts, a T-shirt, socks, and basketball shoes. The cost of the camp is $60 and will be held in Waugh Gymnasium on the Ina campus.
The Cheerleading and Dance camps will be held on Monday-Wednesday, June 16-18, by RLC Coach Nikki LaBuwi-Carollo for students entering or leaving K-8. Dance Camp will last from 9 a.m. – noon, and Cheerleading Camp will begin after, from 1 – 4 p.m., both in Waugh Gymnasium on the Ina campus. The cost of each camp is $55, but students who enroll in both receive a $10 discount.
Junior High School Cheerleading Squads can also participate in summer camp to get advanced instruction on floor cheers, basic stunting, dance, and voice projection from LaBuwi-Carollo for $55. The instruction will be held from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Thursday and Friday, June 19-20 in Waugh Gymnasium.
Finally, Volleyball Camp will be hosted by RLC Volleyball Coach Sara Crews for students entering or leaving grades 6-8 for $50 each. Campers will practice passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and offensive and defensive principles. Attendees are asked to bring their own lunch, and wear shorts, a T-shirt, socks, tennis shoes, and kneepads. The camp is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Thursday and Friday, June 26-27 in Waugh Gymnasium on the Ina campus.
All campers will get a Sports Camp T-shirt with registration. Payments may be made by check, money order, credit or debit cards, or cash, and must be received at the time of registration. Parents and guardians are responsible for all transportation arrangements to and from camp.
