INA, Ill. (May 5, 2014) – For the outdoorsy child or the one with the wild imagination, Rend Lake College is offering four Kids Camps throughout the district this summer.
With offerings in Benton, Mt. Vernon, and Pinckneyville, campers will have the option to enjoy fun in the sun, paint a canvas, and learn about fashion, among other activities.
“Outdoor Adventure” will be hosted at Benton’s Camp Manitowa for students entering or leaving grades 2-9. There are four week-long camps, scheduled from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays June 16-19, June 23-26, July 21-24, and July 28-31. Attendees can choose to attend one, two, three, or all four camp weeks.
At “Outdoor Adventure,” campers will take part in arts and crafts, challenge courses, zip lining, team-building exercises, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. Kids are asked to bring a sack lunch and drinks, sunscreen, insect repellant, and swimming attire. The cost of the camp is $155 for the first week, and $100 for each additional week. Siblings may attend for a discounted rate of $100.
In Mt. Vernon, camp “Strike A Pose” will be held at Studio RLC at the MarketPlace for students entering or leaving grades 1-7. The one-day camp is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Thursday, July 17.
During the camp, students will learn the latest fashions and trends in skin care, make-up, nail care, hair, poise, and etiquette. There will be a runway walk at the end of the day, so campers are asked to bring their favorite outfit. The camp costs $35, which includes lunch.
Two camps will be held at the RLC Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus, Room 101. First up will be “Picture It!” for students entering or leaving grades 2-4. The campers will create hand-painted canvases with a sport or flower theme. The deadline for enrollment is May 30 and the cost is $25. Campers are asked to wear an old shirt or paint smock. The camp is scheduled for 9 – 11 a.m., Saturday, June 28.
Finally, “Castles, Catapults, and Coat of Arms,” is designed for students entering or leaving grades 1-6. They will become characters in medieval times, learning to work together to creatively problem-solve, enhance understanding of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and build towers, boats, drawbridges, catapults, and more.
The cost of the camp is $100. It is scheduled for 1 – 4 p.m., Monday-Thursday, July 21-24.
Payments may be made by check, money order, credit or debit cards, or cash, and must be received at the time of registration. Parents and guardians are responsible for all transportation arrangements to and from camp.
