INA, Ill. (April 8, 2014) – The 32nd Annual Welding Contest will be held at Rend Lake College Friday for in-district high school students. The top 10 students will win prizes with the top three receiving two-year tuition waivers to the RLC Welding Technology program.
Welding Associate Professor Pete Wilce said the contest will begin around 9 a.m. in the welding shop and will conclude around 11:30 a.m. for lunch and judging. There will be an awards ceremony afterward.
“We have about 40 high school kids coming, some from every high school in our area,” he said. “They all will have to weld an I-beam and myself and the other welding instructors will judge them. They will each be given a number, so we won’t know who is who, and we’ll give the top three a waiver to attend RLC next year.”
