MT. VERNON, Ill. (Feb. 10, 2014) – Rend Lake College, in connection with the American Heart Association (AHA), will be offering a number of Emergency Medical Services courses this spring at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon.
Students will have the option to partake of CPR and First Aid several times throughout the semester. This one-day course will begin at 9 a.m. on Feb. 11, March 19, April 23, and May 1.
There are two other one-day refresher courses offered at the AHA Training Center: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). PALS will meet at 9 a.m. on March 4 and May 2. ACLS also starts at 9 a.m. on the following dates: Feb. 13, March 10, April 21, and May 12.
Two preparatory classes are also offered through the AHA. PALS Preparatory, a two-day course, will be offered from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Feb. 25-26 and April 8-9. Similarly, ACLS Preparatory will be offered at the same times on Feb. 19-20, March 27-28, April 2-3, and May 5-6.
RLC will also host several workshops in the EMS field. NIMS ICS 300 and 400 will serve students who plan to go into command or general staff on an Incident Management Team. Topics in these two classes include organization, transfer of command, ICS forms, and many more.
NIMS ICS 300 will meet from 9 a.m. – 5p.m. on March 11-12 at the RLC MarketPlace, Room 221. The following course, NIMS ICS 400, will meet during the same times on April 22-23 in Room 221. There is no charge to attend any of the aforementioned classes.
The Trauma Nursing Core Course is a class that will teach students a standardized body of trauma nursing knowledge to prepare them for emergency care settings. The class costs $250 and has been scheduled for April 26-27.
