INA, Ill. (Oct. 19, 2013) – Despite a rainy start Saturday morning, the fall Car Show hosted at Rend Lake College brought out more than 80 vehicles and hundreds of people for family fun and prizes.
Events were spread across campus, from a small swap meet, to slot car racing in the Auto Shop, to lines of vehicles for judging, and including food prepared by the RLC Culinary Arts program and live entertainment from Hot Rod Nights.
RLC Automotive Technology Professor Nigel Thompson said the show went extremely well after getting a late start.
“I think the weather held some people back, but then we had a big rush of people show up,” said Thompson. “It’s a nice day outside and we’ve got a lot of great cars and trucks that came out to share the day with us and support Rend Lake College students. I really want to thank the members of the Kingsmen Car Club of Mt. Vernon who has helped us out a lot. I’ve very happy about the turnout.”
Thompson also thanked the faculty and staff of Rend Lake College for their hardwork throughout the day.
Proceeds from the Car Show went toward a new Car Show Scholarship for future RLC students interested in the Automotive Technology program. The scholarship will be awarded in the 2014-15 academic year.
Door prizes were donated by Tommy T’s of Mt. Vernon, Mt. Vernon AutoZone, Federated Auto Parts of Mt. Vernon, Bumper to Bumper of Benton, NAPA of Mt. Vernon, the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union, Il-Mo Welding Products of Mt. Vernon, Don’s Stereo and Speed Center of Mt. Vernon and Wilkey’s Airport Restaurant in Mt. Vernon.
