INA, Ill. (Sept. 19, 2013) – Due to the success of last year’s scholarship drive, the Rend Lake College Criminal Justice program is planning another Roundup for Scholarships for Oct. 29. The event will last from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Rend Lake Resort, Conference Room A.
Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be available, along with a number of speakers taking the podium throughout the evening. Last year, a number of students in the Criminal Justice program spoke to the importance of the scholarships and their field.
Ron Meek, Criminal Justice Instructor, said his students, as well as Judge Michael McHaney of the Illinois Fourth Judicial Circuit, will be speaking again this year.
“This event last year was an overwhelming success,” said Meek. “We went from zero scholarships to five, thanks to those who attended to support our program.”
As the organizer of the event, Meek added that he saw the need for his students and hopes this year will be as great as the last.
“These scholarships can be the difference between a student getting their degree and not,” he said. “It is unacceptable to have a student who wants an education to not get it because of lack of financial resources, and this event is one way to stop that from happening.”
The Roundup for Scholarships raised approximately $3,000 last year with the help of the local community and law enforcement agencies, from judges and attorneys to parole agents and college faculty and staff. The cost to attend is $25.
