INA, Ill. (Sept. 6, 2013) – Two new tours have been added to the list of educational events planned by Rend Lake College’s Community and Corporate Education Institute of Lifelong Learning. This year, five events and tours are scheduled to take students to other states and countries.
New this year are the Ste. Genevieve Tour and the World Religions Tour. The Ste. Genevieve Tour will take participants to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, a historic, colonial city, to visit 18th Century homes and buildings led by costumed guides. The afternoon will be filled with lunch at Chaumette Winery & Vineyards and a stop at Crown Valley Winery for a tour and wine tasting. The cost of the trip is $115, and includes transportation, guides, fees, lunch and a wagon ride. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The World Religions Tour will introduce participants to a variety of religions located in St. Louis, Missouri. Stops include a Hindu temple, an Islamic Mosque, The Cedars at St. Raymond’s, the Maronite Catholic Church, a Buddhist library and activity center and a Jewish synagogue. The cost of the tour is $79, and includes everything except lunch. The trip is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Also being held locally is the Reading, ‘Riting, & ‘Rithmetic Taught to the Tune of a Hickory Stick event, held at the Historic Schoolhouse on the Ina campus. The program, taught by local historian Sid Milliner, will bring back memories of yesteryear with memories and stories. The event costs $10 and is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18.
There are two additional tours – Northern National Parks and Reflections of Italy – that take participants out of the state for overnight trips. The Northern National Parks trip will take attendees to Jackson, Wyoming; Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons. The Reflections of Italy trip will have stops in Rome, Perugia, Florence, Venice and Malpensa. RLC partners with Collette Vacations to offer the trips.
