MT. VERNON, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2013) – As the 12th Anniversary Open House approaches, the Rend Lake College MarketPlace is pulling out the stops to make the event one-of-a-kind for the attendees and all those who call the MarketPlace home. The open house is set for 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
The RLC programs housed in the MarketPlace will be participating in the event, in addition to other businesses and organizations. Studio RLC, the college’s cosmetology program, will be providing hand massages and a tour of the studio; the Child Care Resource and Referral program Project CHILD will host several children’s activities; Emergency Medical Services will perform mock ambulance and CPR demonstrations; and blood pressure checks will be completed by the college’s CNA and Nursing programs.
In addition, the Fitness Center will be open all day for those looking for a great way to get in shape by offering all classes for free. During the Open House, the classes available will be spinning from 4:45-5:30 p.m. and Zumba from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Other programs will be on hand, including the RLC Small Business Development Center, the RLC Adult Education Department, the SIU Workforce Education Department, the SIU Secondary Education Department and McKendree University.
MarketPlace retailers, such as the college-owned RLC Golf Outlet, Shoe Stop, Bonworth, Lonestar and Coffee Shop will also be open to visitors. Both the Golf Outlet and Studio RLC will be offering a 12 percent discount on several in-store items.
Additionally, the Golf Outlet will have free range balls available all day for the recently-opened Cherry Creek Driving Range. A Golf Pro will also be in attendance at the Open House.
“This event is the perfect time to experience the opportunities available at this unique facility right here in our community,” said Lori Ragland, Dean of Community and Corporate Education. “We are excited about our recent addition of a fitness center and driving range, both available to the community free of charge the entire day.”
There will be giveaways and door prizes during the event from many of the programs and businesses. Items from the RLC Golf Outlet and Book Store will be included with haircuts from Studio RLC and a Kindle Fire grand prize.
Other RLC programs will provide information about their departments and divisions in the Conference Room 354: Ag, Diesel and Heavy Equipment; Allied Health; Applied Science and Technology; Community and Corporate Education; Radiology Tech, and Vesta and Horticulture.
Refreshments will be served throughout the event with food demonstrations by RLC Culinary Arts students. General information about RLC will be offered for those wanting to learn more about obtaining a higher education.
