INA, Ill. (August 5, 2013) – For the second year in a row, Murray Energy Corp. is bringing the Fire Brigade Inner-Company Midwest Regional Contest to Rend Lake College, compelling nine teams to go toe-to-toe for a seat in the National Contest in September.
The Regional Contest will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, in the RLC Coal Mine Training Center, and will last through Thursday, Aug. 8, as the teams race against the clock and each other to complete a number of stations and problems. The contest is used as a tool to help the brigade members enhance their skills at fighting fires in coal mines.
The Coal Mine Training Center is often used for mine rescue and training drills for several occupational certificates and degrees for RLC students. The facility opened in the fall of 2009, with the Mine Rescue and Fire Training Facility following in 2010, thanks to a $2.7 million grant from the federal and state governments.
