Whether it's hitting the court with Warriors national champions at basketball camp or letting the imagine run wild in the new Lego™ series, a summer with friends at RLC's Kids Camps will be a memorable one.

Ag Camp is for grades K-3 from 9 a.m. to noon on June 17-20, and for grades 4-8 from 1-4 p.m. on June 17-20. Location: Applied Science Ctr, Rm 102. Camp Instructor: Melissa Lamczyk. Cost: $30. Description: Come explore the five areas of agriculture: farming, food, fiber, flowers and forestry. Discover animal care with live animals and a veterinarian, as well as plant and soil science with a horticulturist. There will be outdoor activities. Snacks will be provided. This camp is offered in cooperation with Ag in the Classroom.
Ag Career Camp is for grades 7-12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 22-24. Location: Applied Science Ctr, Rm 103. Camp Instructor: Melissa Lamczyk. Cost: $30. Description: An agriculture career doesn’t just involve farming. Come explore all the possibilities available with an Agriculture Degree. Listen to guest speakers and go on fun educational field trips to area businesses to learn more about different careers. Discover information on educational opportunities as well as learning more about job requirements and salary opportunities. This camp is offered in cooperation with Ag in the Classroom.
Aqua Sports - Grades 4-5-6-7. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm or July 22-25, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: Aquatics Center Lobby. Camp Instructor: Laura Johnston.
Cost: $60. Description: If you love to play sports and go swimming, this camp is for you! Learn the skills, techniques, and rules of water polo, basketball, golf, and other water games. Put on your swimsuit and get ready for a splashin’ good time!
Camper must be able to swim 25 yards and jump in 7-foot water without fear.
Band Camp - Grades 5-6. June 24-27, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon. Location: RLC Theatre. Camp Instructor: Amber Williamson. Cost: $75. Description: The Rend Lake College summer band camp will provide an excellent opportunity for musical development. Campers will experience making music with children from other schools, as well as making new friends! At least one year experience in band is required. Bring your instrument and folding stand.
Blastoff! - Grades 4-5-6-7-8. July 22-25, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: Science Bldg, Rm 106. Camp Instructor: Greg Hollmann. Cost: $75. Description: An annual favorite! Turn an ordinary summer into another adventure while attending this ultimate science camp at RLC. Don’t be concerned if you attended in the past. Blastoff! has new challenges in store for you in 2013. Participation in this camp will help students in developing a strong sense of self and connection to their environment. Each participant will build and launch his or her own rocket. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to stimulate and educate young minds!
Chefs of Tomorrow — Grades 4-5-6 (Choose 1, 2, 3, or 4 Sessions) June 21, June 28, July 19, July 26, 9am-3pm. Location: Student Center, Culinary Lab. Camp Instructor: Chef Instructor Robert Wilson. Cost: $35 per session. Description: Each Friday session will feature a different theme: June 21 is Breakfast, June 28 is Lunch, July 19 is Dinner and July 26 is Desserts! Campers can choose one, two, three, or all four sessions. The RLC Culinary Arts Instructors will teach you the basics to begin cooking safely. You will learn how to cook family meals by preparing a meal each day from beginning to end and take home samples of your creations!
Garbage Pail Science - Grades 3-4-5-6. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm or July 15-18, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: Historic Schoolhouse. Camp Instructor: Reba Boyer
Cost: $60. Description: If you think science is boring and hard to understand, this class will change your mind forever. No homework, no paperwork, just lots of hands-on science experiments using stuff and junk. Campers will take home a folder with how-to instructions for all camp activities.
Get Dirty! - Grades 1-2-3. June 24 & 26, Mon & Weds, 9am-Noon. Location: RLC Greenhouse behind Vocational Bldg. Camp Instructor: Candy Fitch-Deitz. Cost: $30. Description: Gardening is fun—especially in Rend Lake College’s greenhouse! Get your hands dirty with hands-on activities. Learn how to grow plants, pretty flowers, and edible vegetables.
Inside-Out Computer Camp - Grades 4-5-6-7-8. June 24-27, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm
or July 15-18, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon. Location: Advanced Tech Center, Rm 163. Cost: $79. Description: Discover your computer from the inside out during this camp. You will explore the interior parts of a computer processor. Connect, install and configure the elements necessary to get your computer up and running. Learn the basics of word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software. Now here’s the best part—you get to take your computer home with you on Thursday!
Lego Collision Car™ - Grades 4-5-6-7-8. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon. Location: Advanced Technology Center, Rm 156. Cost: $150. Description: Get ready to rumble! Using unique Lego® kits, campers will build a variety of battling machines. Using problem solving skills and risk taking nerves, campers will explore how machines work by building machines such as Arm Bot, Blade Bot, Triceratops and more. When the building is done, it’s time to battle! Each camper gets a separate take home project to keep.
Lego Junior Engineer™ - Grades 1-2-3. June 24-27, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon. Location: Advanced Technololgy Center, Rm 156. Cost: $150. Description: Get hands-on learning and building using special reusable Lego® kits. Campers will use basic engineering skills to creatively build and modify machines such as windmills, Merry-Go-Rounds, levers/pliers, pulley/crane, etc. Each camper gets a separate take home project to keep.
Lego Junior Vehicle™ - Grades 1-2-3. June 24-27, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: Advanced Technology Center, Rm 156. Cost $150. Description: There’s more fun with unique Lego® kits as campers learn how to build and modify different vehicles. Campers will learn about friction, forces, motion and aerodynamics as they build vehicles, concept cars, construction machines and more. Each camper gets a separate take home project to keep.
My Buddy & Me Tea Party! - Grades PreK-Kindergarten. July 18, Thurs, 9:30-11:30 am. Location: Learning Resource Center, Children’s Library. Camp Instructor: Beth Mandrell. Cost: $15. Description: Parents/caregivers will join their favorite “little friend” to create teacakes and participate in a tea party. They will learn social etiquette skills and how to conduct a tea party. Campers are encouraged to bring a fancy hat and wear party
attire. Aprons are encouraged to use while decorating cakes. Special guests from around
campus will be invited to join the group. All tools and supplies will be provided.
Oceans of Art - Grades 4-5-6. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon or Grades 1-2-3
June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: Applied Science Center, Rm 103. Camp Instructor: Michelle Montgomery. Cost: $60. Description: Come be immersed in ‘sea’sational stories of the coral reef, ships and sea creatures that will inspire waves of creativity. Enjoy the sounds of the sea as you draw, paint and collage oceans of art. Let’s dive in together!
Starts and Turns Swim Camp - Grades 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8. June 24-25, Mon-Tues, 1-4 pm or July 15-16, Mon-Tues, 1-4 pm. Location: Aquatics Center. Camp Instructor: Laura Johnston. Cost: $30. Designed to improve the technique and efficiency of competitive swimming starts and turns. Learn to work the walls to get the best competitive swim edge over the other swimmers. Proper technique will be emphasized daily for both a grab start and track start. Plus, each stroke turn will be practiced and refined both days of the camp. This camp is for those who have swim team experience.
Survivor Camp - Grades 4-5-6-7-8. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 9 am-Noon. Location: Historic Schoolhouse. Camp Instructor: Tim Bischoff. Cost: $60. Description: Who has the endurance to survive? Come play Rend Lake College’s version of survivor this summer. You will learn basic survival skills as you compete to be the ultimate survivor. Wear long pants, closed-toe shoes (no sandals), insect repellant, and dress for the weather. We will be outdoors, rain or shine.
Video Game Maker™ - Grades 4-5-6-7-8. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: Advanced Tech Center, Rm 175. Cost: $150. Description: Learn how to design and modify your own arcade style video game. Learn how to control characters, objects and outcomes, then increase the difficulty level and add more features. Campers will also design their own version of Pac Man and other games. A flash drive will be provided to take home your game creation.
Weird Science 1 - Grades 1-2-3. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm or June 24-27, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon or July 15-18, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon or July 22-25, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: Vocational Bldg, Room 118. Camp Instructor: Cathy Sanders. Cost: $60. See volcanoes erupt before your very eyes. Experiment with magnets, bubbles, gak, slime and other mysterious things. Join us for a week of discovery during this “hands on” science camp!
Weird Science 2 - Grades 1-2-3. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon or June 24-27, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm or July 15-18, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm or July 22-25, Mon-Thurs, 9 am-Noon. Location: Vocational Bldg, Room 118. Camp Instructor: Cathy Sanders. Cost: $60. If you liked Weird Science, you’ll love Weird
Science 2. More experiments, more messes, and lots more fun! You’ll discover science by using pulleys, hammering, measuring, problem solving and making parachutes. All experiments are hands-on and totally awesome!
Outdoor Adventure — Grades 2-3-4-5-6-7. (Choose 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks!) June 17-20, June 24-27, July 15-18, July 22-25, Mon-Thurs, 9 am-4 pm. Location: Camp Manitowa. Cost: $155 for 1st week, $75 per additional week. Description: Spend a few summer days at the recently renovated Camp Manitowa by Lake Benton. It’s all the excitement of an overnight camp held during the day. A unique adventure awaits on the high ropes (challenge course and zip line) and low ropes (a team building trail). Enjoy crafts, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. What a great way to build lasting memories and make new friends! Campers should bring a sack lunch, drinks, sunscreen, insect repellant, and swimming attire each day.
(After-camp supervision is available at $5 per hour, paid directly to Camp Manitowa. $155 for first child; siblings may attend for discounted rate of $75. Campers who register for more than one week of Camp Manitowa receive discounted rate of $75 per additional week.)
Horseback Riding— Ages 10-14. (Choose 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks!). June 18-20, June 25-27, July 16-18, July 23-25. Tues-Thurs, 9 am-Noon. Location: Camp Manitowa Stables at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park. Cost: $150 per week. Description: Put on your jeans and boots and ride the Trails of Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park! Campers will be matched to a suitable mount for this three-day camp and will learn the proper techniques for saddling, bridling and riding horses. Riding helmets will be provided by the stable. Campers will need to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and must bring own beverages/snack each day. Class size limited to 8 campers.
Strike A Pose - Grades 1-2-3-4-5-6-7. July 18, Thursday, 9 am-3 pm. Location: Studio RLC, RLC MarketPlace. Camp Instructors: Studio RLC Style Team. Cost: $35. Description: Learn the latest fashions and trends; make yourself feel just like a model! Discover the basics: skin care, make-up, nail care, latest hair
styles, poise and etiquette. Develop self-confidence, personality and social skills. Introduce the “new” you to family and friends during your runway walk at the end of the day. Camp fee includes lunch. Bring your favorite outfit.
Future Chefs - Grades PreK-Kindergarten. June 17-20, Mon-Thurs, 9-11 am. Location: Murphy-Wall Campus, Rm 101. Camp Instructor: Elaine Bigham. Cost: $40. Description: Learn how to make fun nutritional snacks perfect for summer. Campers will learn how to measure and how to eat healthy. Each camper will design their own chef apron which they will keep as well as a recipe booklet.

Boys Basketball Camp - Grades 1-2-3. June 3-6, Mon-Thurs, 9 am-Noon or Grades 4-5-6. June 3-6, Mon-Thurs, 1-4 pm. Location: RLC Waugh Gym. Camp Instructor: Randy House, RLC Men’s Basketball Head Coach. Cost: $65. Description: This is your chance to learn from the 2013 NJCCA DII National Championship team! Each day will stress instruction on individual fundamentals like shooting, passing, ball-handling, defense and rebounding. There will also be an individual 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 tournament, lectures, and player awards. Things to bring: shorts, T-shirt, socks, basketball shoes, towel.
Girls Basketball Camp - Grades 3-4-5 June 10-14, Mon-Fri, 9am-Noon or Grades 6-7-8 June 10-14, Mon-Fri, 1-4 pm. Location: RLC Waugh Gym. Camp Instructor: Coach Ward McDaniel & Coach Sam Story. Cost: $60. Description: Individual instruction on all phases of shooting, ball-handling, passing, one-on-one defense and rebounding. Campers will need gym shorts, a T-shirt, socks, basketball shoes and towel.
Cheerleading Camp - Grades K-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8. June 17-19, Mon-Weds, 1-4 pm. Jr. High School Squads June 20-21, Thurs-Fri, 9 am-4 pm. (12-1pm Lunch Break). Location: RLC Waugh Gym. Camp Instructor: Coach Nikki LaBuwi-Carollo. Cost: $50. Description: K-8 Cheerleading camp will focus on cheers,
chants, jumps and spirit dances, while earning prizes. Squad cheerleaders get advanced instruction in floor cheers, basic stunting, dance and voice projection and compete for best all-around squad, most spirited and much more! Squads, don’t forget to bring a lunch. Each participant should come dressed and ready to cheer.
Dance Camp - Grades K-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 June 17-19, Mon-Weds, 9 am-Noon. Location: RLC Waugh Gym. Camp Instructor: Coach Nikki LaBuwi-Carollo. Cost: $50. Description: If you love to dance, then this camp is perfect for you! This camp will focus on choreographed dances and competition for prizes. Things to bring: Appropriate attire.
Baseball Camp - Grades K-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 June 24-27, Mon-Thurs, 9 am-3 pm. Location: RLC Sports Center. Camp Instructor: Coach Tony Etnier. Camp Cost: $110. Description: Discover the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, pitching, base running, and the mental aspects of the game. Softball Camp - Grades 4-5-6-7-8 June 3-5, Mon-Weds, 1-4 pm. Location: RLC Softball Field. Camp Instructor: Coach Dave Ellingsworth. Cost: $50. Description: Camp will focus on fundamentals of hitting, fielding, pitching, base running, and mental aspects of the game. Campers should bring glove, tennis shoes or rubber cleats. Bat & helmet optional.
Volleyball Camp - Grades 6-7-8 June 27-28, Thurs-Fri 9 am-4 pm. Location: RLC Waugh Gym. Camp Instructor: Coach Sara Crews. Cost $50. Description: Instruction will be given on fundamentals of passing, setting, hitting and blocking. Basic offensive and defensive principles will also be taught. Bring your own lunch, shorts, T-shirt, socks, tennis shoes, and kneepads.

Payment may be made by check, money order, credit/debit card or cash and must be received at the time of registration.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
A full refund will be issued for cancellations received one week prior to the first day of camp. Rend Lake College cannot provide make-up sessions or partial refunds for days missed. RLC reserves the right to cancel any camps that do not meet minimum enrollment—the registration fee will be fully refunded.
Students and their parents/guardians are responsible for all transportation arrangements to and from camp. Supervision will be provided for ONLY 10 minutes before camp begins. Out of respect for our camp instructors, please do not be late picking up your child.
Notes for Community Ed Camps
Please dress your child appropriately for the weather and the camp. Old clothes are best—we get messy! If it’s raining, send a hooded jacket or umbrella. Camps will take a daily, supervised break with minimal walking to another building. For break time, you will need to send snacks/drinks with your child or change for vending machines.
Confirmation and Waiver Forms
Parents/guardians will receive a confirmation letter prior to the beginning of camp to confirm payment and registration. A liability waiver will also be sent to return the first day of camp. If a camp is full, you will be notified.
Any Day, Any Age Cost: $3 per day. Extend your camper’s fun by letting them attend both a morning and afternoon camp session. RLC staff will collect your camper at the end of their morning camp, supervise their lunch, and drop them off with their afternoon leader. Parents may drop their camper off at their 9 am camp and pick up at 4 pm following their afternoon session. Campers need to bring a sack lunch and beverage each day.
