Adult Education and Family Literacy Coordinator Vickie Golliher and Workforce Training Coordinator Yvonne Hallam made a presentation last November at the Southern Illinois Professional Development Group Conference. It went over so well, according to their supervisor, that the duo were invited to make the presentation again at an upcoming state conference.
According to Jay Brooks, Director of Adult Education and Family Literacy, the 26th annual statewide conference of the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association will be held Wednesday, March 9, through Friday, March 11, in Springfield. This year’s theme is “Between the Rivers ... The Adventures of Illinois Adult Educators.”
On the first day of the conference, Golliher and Hallam will present “Fear Factor: Facing Employment Anxiety with Resilience for Job Success,” a type of spoof on the television show Fear Factor. The presentation will be an interactive, hands-on learning activity that will engage the participants in the discussion of job fears and anxiety. Topics include how to overcome fears of job interviews, resumé writing, communication/body language, career assessments and more.
“Everyone who attends will get something to use with their own students,” said Brooks. Most of the attendees of the three-day conference will be professionals in the field of adult education from throughout Illinois.
