Learn from the experts about opening and growing a childcare business with an upcoming expo and seminar sponsored by three area community colleges.
The fourth annual Creating and Growing a Childcare Business Seminar and Expo will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the Holiday Inn, 222 Potomac Blvd., Mt. Vernon. The conference is open to people already in the business of childcare and/or those who are considering opening a business. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of training sessions, network, visit the Expo and participate in door prize giveaways during the day’s activities.
A keynote address will be offered by Tom Copeland of the Redleaf National Institute, a leading educator for the family childcare business. He is the author of several books and is featured in the video, The Business of Family Child Care. Copeland has successfully lobbied the Internal Revenue Service to make a number of clarifications in the tax rules affecting providers and in 1998 won the Child Care Advocate of the Year award from the Minnesota Licensed Family Child Care Association.
Additional seminar topics will include Childhood Nutrition and Obesity, Managing ADHD/Challenging Behaviors in Child Care, curriculum training in math and science, story telling, and a special session on Marketing Your Childcare Business, led by Copeland.
Sponsorship for the Seminar & Expo is provided by the Small Business Development Centers of Rend Lake College, Kaskaskia College, and Illinois Eastern Community Colleges; Rend Lake College Project CHILD, and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration in partnership with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
