Friends and teammates Brittany Schafer and Jenifer Hoffman are sticking together after completing their Rend Lake College careers. Both have signed on to play with the University of Illinois at Springfield this fall.
Hoffman (Collinsville) played first base for the RLC Lady Warrior softball team. The Education major hit .350 in her sophomore year, with 61 hits, 34 RBI and seven homers.
Hoffman was named Most Valuable Player in both her junior and senior years in high school and also was named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Area and First Team All-Metro St. Louis Area.
She praised RLC Softball Head Coach Dave Ellingsworth for making her transition to junior college comfortable. “He’s like a second dad to me,” she said.
Like her friend Hoffman, Schafer (Flora) has had a standout career at Rend Lake College. The hurler held a 2.00 ERA in her final season and struck out 81. She recently was honored with the Rend Lake College 2005 Top Pitcher Award after accumulating a career ERA of 1.61.
Both were on hand this year to help Ellingsworth reach his 500th career victory.
