Pony rides, an enormous inflatable obstacle course, a petting zoo, and visits from Dora, Diego and Strawberry Shortcake will be sure to keep the kids happy during the sixth annual Project CHILD Children’s Festival, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon.
This free festival is a celebration of families and children, which is sponsored annually by Project CHILD. The festival features local organizations which offer early childhood programs and services to meet the needs of families with young children. There will be a plethora of exciting activities and games for the kids and information for parents.
The new giant inflatables area will include the XP360 inflatable obstacle course, the 55-foot Kiddiepillar bounce house and an inflatable Hoop Shoot. Other festivities include the Lions’ Club train, a petting zoo and appearances by Dora, Diego and friends. Kids definitely won’t want to miss face painting, carnival games and a puppet show, and they will have the chance to participate in games, create masterpieces and sing and dance.
Kids also can bring in their “Best Bear Buddy” for a check-up at the Teddy Bear Clinic. Free children’s haircuts will be available during the festival at nearby Studio RLC.
Pony rides will be available for a small fee, and drinks and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the day. The festival, however, is free.
Parents and child care providers can get information on important child care issues from the many booths which will be available. Representatives from local community agencies, businesses and child advocates will be on hand to answer questions and provide resources for both providers and parents. Great prizes will be given throughout the day.
