Rend Lake College is getting ready to host its first Spelling “B” Contest.
Only in this case, the “B” stands for Basketball and everyone competing is going to be spelling the same word, H-O-R-S-E.
A variation of the age-old basketball game, H-O-R-S-E, will be the centerpiece for a contest to be held Saturday, May 6, in Waugh Gymnasium on the Rend Lake College campus in Ina.
Players of all ages, from Pee Wees to Senior Citizens, are encouraged to participate. Boys and girls, men and women will be placed into competitive divisions, depending on the number of contestants in each grouping, in this one-on-one, double-elimination challenge.
It will be a Jump-Shooting H-O-R-S-E Contest based primarily on spot shooting, with no slam dunks or unconventional moves allowed. All entries are guaranteed a minimum of at least two games.
“We have all played the game most of our life,” says Head Coach Glenn Box of the sponsoring Lady Warrior Basketball Team. “This is your chance to show everybody just how good you are and claim Southern Illinois bragging rights.”
All participants must register between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in the RLC Gym. The entry fee is $10 for students, $15 for “big kids-at-heart.”
Competition in the Spelling “B” (for Basketball) H-O-R-S-E Contest is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day, until champions are determined in each category.
