People 50 years of age and older can lower their auto insurance premiums by taking the American Association of Retired Persons Driver Safety Program this month at Rend Lake College.
The course, offered through RLC’s Institute for Learning in Retirement, is aimed at helping drivers improve their skills and prevent accidents. Age-related physical changes, declining perceptual skills, rules of the road and local driving problems will be covered.
State-certified volunteer instructors trained by AARP will conduct the course using visual aids, a student manual and group discussion.
Automobile insurance companies doing business in Illinois are required to provide a premium discount to all eligible graduates of this program, which is a state-approved driver improvement course.
The two-day class will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, and Wednesday, May 17, and will meet in Room 142 of the Learning Resource Center on the Ina campus. Participants should bring $10 payable to AARP on the first day of class.
