BENTON – The Design Team at Rend Lake College’s Studio RLC Paul Mitchell Partner School will participate in welcoming home soldiers with a day of fun and relaxation. The event is being hosted by the Marion VA Medical Center.
The event will take place 10 a.m. thru 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Rend Lake Visitor Center in Benton. Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom who have returned to the U.S. since Jan. 1 are invited to the welcome home event. Immediate family members are also welcome.
The Studio RLC Design Team will offer Paul Mitchell Tea Tree hand massages to the men and women and hairstyles for the women from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a recognition ceremony held at 11 a.m. for the veterans.
Timberland Bluegrass Band will perform from 1-2 p.m., along with Night Sounds DJ and other local talent performing for entertainment throughout the day. Other activities include a picnic lunch, children’s safety smoke house, coloring contest, temporary tattoos, washers, croquet, horseshoes, Frisbee, clowns, snow-cones, and popcorn.
To get to the RLC Visitor Center from Interstate 57, take exit 71, turn west, go through signal lights, continue west to Rend City Road, turn right, follow to bridge, and turn right again. The Visitor Center is on the left hand side of the road. Individuals are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. A bike trail and camping site is also available.
