In a rare opportunity for area residents, John Paul DeJoria, Chief Executive Officer of John Paul Mitchell Systems, and Winn Claybaugh, Dean of Paul Mitchell The School, will be on hand at an open house for Rend Lake College’s Cosmetology Program and its salon, Studio RLC.
The open house is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, at Studio RLC, located in the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon. Rend Lake College is a Paul Mitchell Partner School. The RLC program is the only one of its kind in a 100-mile radius and is the only public school which has been accepted as a partner. Other schools which are Paul Mitchell Partners are private schools.
"This is probably the one and only chance people in Mt. Vernon and the surrounding area will have to meet and talk with John Paul DeJoria," said Jim Hull, Vice-President of Instruction for RLC.
"It is an opportunity to learn about the commitment Paul Mitchell Systems and Rend Lake College have made to the industry," Hull said of the open house.
The event will include tours of the studio and the cosmetology program facility. Attendees also can speak with DeJoria and Claybaugh, gather information about the Paul Mitchell Partner School program and learn about Rend Lake College’s unique partnership with Paul Mitchell.
The Cosmetology Program, which kicked off in November, is rapidly growing, Hull said. Approximately 32 future professionals are enrolled in the program, with another class scheduled to begin March 1.
Paul Mitchell is using RLC as a model to determine the success of the program in a public setting.
The art of cosmetology includes hair styling, skin treatments, manicures, pedicures and facials. However, through a unique learning system, Paul Mitchell Partner Schools take cosmetology to another level. Paul Mitchell instructors go far beyond the basics when teaching future professionals.
In addition to advanced cosmetology skills, Paul Mitchell also teaches the "Paul Mitchell Culture." Students learn not only how to cut hair, but to do it in such a way the client is happy, satisfied and will return.
The advantage to the student of going through a Paul Mitchell partner school is vastly increased marketability. It also is terrific preparation for those wishing to go into business for themselves.
Paul Mitchell schools are known for their atmosphere, learning style and the enjoyment of the program.
Although less expensive than other Paul Mitchell schools, RLC’s program lasts roughly the same length of time -- one calendar year.
Rend Lake College also recently approved a Cosmetology Teacher Certificate Program and authorized its approval to the Illinois Community College Board for action
The salon associated with the program, Studio RLC, opened to the public earlier this month. In addition to traditional cosmetology services, the salon also offers a complete line of Paul Mitchell products for sale.
