From quilting to karate, Rend Lake College’s Community Education Department is now offering six classes in Wayne City.
"Success with Water Gardening" is a four-session course held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursdays beginning January 22. Aaron Peters of Family Roots Nursery will show participants how to build quality water gardens that will beautify their homes and provide hours of peaceful enjoyment. Attendees will learn design tips which will allow them to create and maintain water gardens. The course costs $24.
Join Wayne City Community Coordinator Debbie Timmons for "Raggedy Quilt," a four-session course offered from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning January 27. During the course, participants will complete a flannel quilt. The course costs $36 and attendees will be provided with a supply list at the time of registration.
"Beading Basics" will be offered from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, January 29, at a cost of $3. This workshop will allow participants to fashion a piece of jewelry to wear home or give as a gift. Those taking the course will learn to create bracelets, necklaces, earrings and anklets.
Get ready for prom season with "Prom Bouquet/Boutonniere," offered from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 24. During the class, which costs $15, participants will create their own arm bouquets or boutonnieres. This hands-on class will provide attendees with the instruction they need to exit the class with their own designs, ready for that special dance.
For the first-time family researcher, "Genealogy Workshop" will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, February 28. Participants will learn where to look for family information, such as at home, the courthouse and the library, and will receive tips on using a large genealogy library or archive system. There also will be instruction in on-line genealogy, including where to look and what information to trust. The course costs $15 ($21 with lunch).
For those looking for a physical challenge, an eight-session "Karate for Beginners" course will be held from 4-5 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning March 16. The course costs $24. Participants will discover martial arts training and will improve their health and coordination. In addition to learning basic calisthenics and stretches, attendees will experience beginning stances and will learn fundamental blocks, punches and falls that can be combined into self defense techniques.
