INA – The votes are in, ballot boxes put away and the students have spoken. Rend Lake College’s 2008 student Homecoming King and Queen are Robert Kapsoiya and Hannah Simmons.
RLC students voted in the Student Center on campus Tuesday and Wednesday. The Rend Lake royalty were crowned Wednesday night during halftime of the Warrior men’s basketball game against John A. Logan College. A faculty/staff Homecoming king and queen were crowned during halftime of the women’s game. They are Counselor Jena Jensik and Educational Technology Specialist Greg Poole.
Simmons, 20, of McLeansboro, is a sophomore speech pathology major who plans to transfer to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Nominated by the RLC Student Ambassadors organization, the daughter of Marty and Patti Simmons works in the liberal arts department at RLC, is a student ambassador and member of the Forensics Team.
Kapsoiya, 22; of Eldoret, Kenya; is a sophomore nursing major and member of the RLC men’s cross country and track and field teams. Nominated by student-athletes at the college; the son of Annah Kapsoiya and brother to David, Julius, Kipkoech, Rebecca, Chemeli and Chelimo; wants to be “a successful man with a happy family and to run on Kenya’s parliamentary ticket” one day. While studying in the U.S., Kapsoiya lives in Benton.
The RLC student court consisted of Dawn Feezer (Mt. Vernon), Dianna Hatfield (Wayne City), Hannah Keeney (Villa Grove), Simmons, Michelle Rose (Marion), Jennie True (Carbondale), Kelsey Knapp (Pinckneyville), Lauren Steffy (Mt. Vernon), Rachel Keim (Carterville), Leroy David Griffin (Effingham), Olen Rodriguez (Benton), Alex Crain (McLeansboro), Eric Rieckenberg (Pinckneyville), Derek Moore (Bonnie) and Kapsoiya. Candidates were nominated by various student organizations and teams at the college.
The faculty/staff court consists of Applied Science and Technology Division Chair Sarah Bond, Jensik, Women’s Golf Coach Cindy Corn, Computer Science Instructor Brad Helm, Mining Technology Instructor David Colombo and Poole. Faculty and staff candidates are nominated by their co-workers at RLC.
