MT. VERNON – An opportunity from SSM Hospice of The Good Samaritan, The Medicine Shoppe and Rend Lake College is coming soon for healthcare professionals seeking to learn more about the field of hospice care while earning continuing education contact hours.
This workshop is targeted at hospice, nursing and respiratory professionals.
The keynote address, “Dynamics of Dying,” will be presented by Barbara Karnes, RN. Hospice sessions will include presentations “Hospice and Palliative Care: Making a Difference” by Dr. Yagnesh Oza, “Being a Doula for the Dying” and “Taking Care of Yourself,” both by Karnes.
Respiratory sessions will include “Sleep-Disordered Breathing and its Comorbidities” with Kimberly Minton, RRT; “Chronic Bronchial Infections and Their Treatment” with Dr. Anthony Vacca; and a presentation by Dr. Jamie Haas, supported by Respironics, Inc.

Application has been made to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapists. Rend Lake College is an approved provider for the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. This workshop is approved for Continuing Education units for Respiratory Therapists some Nurses and Social Workers, as well as, 0.5 credit hours of Continuing Education through Rend Lake College. An unofficial transcript will be provided to participants who request such at its conclusion.
