Tentative budget approved
Approved the tentative budget for Fiscal Year 2009. The budget will be available for public inspection for 30 days and a public hearing on the budget will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, prior to the regular board meeting.
RAMP document okayed
Approved the Resource Allocation Management Plan for transmittal to the Illinois Community College Board. The RAMP document is a "wish list" of projects the college would like to undertake which would require state funding. This year's list includes an expansion of the Art Department, a new Science and Nursing building, a physical rehabilitation and fitness center, a telecommunications center and a new Physical Plant Department building.
Parking lot, west road projects to be bid
Granted permission to advertise for bids for the re-sealing and striping of the Ina campus and RLC MarketPlace parking lots, estimated at a total cost of $28,500, and for the resurfacing of the west campus road with asphalt, estimated at $22,000.
Two interest transfers approved
Approved the transfer of $48,960.07 in interest earned on the Insurance Reserve Fund to the Tort Liability Fund, Auxiliary Fund and Audit Fund. The board also approved the transfer of $66,000 in interest earned on the Working Cash fund to the Education Fund.
Second Welding instructor to be sought
Granted permission to create a second Welding Technology Instructor position and to advertise to fill the position. The second instructor is needed due to the growth of the Welding Technology program.
Full-time instructional appointments made
o Transferred Mark Mueller from Heavy Equipment Technology Instructor to Agricultural Mechanics Instructor and granted him permanent full-time status effective Aug. 18.
o Granted permanent full-time status to Jeff Collins, Heavy Equipment Technology Instructor.
o Employed Cindy Lord as full-time permanent Associate Degree Nursing Instructor effective Aug. 1. Lord had been employed in this capacity as a temporary full-time instructor for the past year.
Hull accepts position at Lake Land
Accepted with regret the resignation of Dr. Jim Hull, Vice President of Instruction, effective June 30. Hull has been appointed the Vice President for Academic Services at Lake Land College in Mattoon. He has served at RLC since October 2002.
Box, Darnell, Fuller moving on
Accepted with regret the resignations of: Glenn Box, STARS Counselor and Head Women's Basketball Coach, effective May 28; Lindsay Yunkus Darnell, Registrar, effective June 30; and Heather "Nicci" Fuller, Lead Pre-K Child Care Provider, effective May 20.
Athletic titles changed
Added the title of Athletic Director to Brent McLain, Assistant to the Vice President of Finance and Administration for Athletics. The board also added the title of Fitness Center Director for Rend Lake College and Good Samaritan Hospital and removed the title of Athletic Director for Denny Myers.
Two hires to be ratified next month
o Granted permission to hire a STARS (Student Transfer and Retention Support) Advisor and ratify the appointment at the July 8 Board of Trustees meeting. The position is vacant due to the resignation of Glenn Box.
o Granted permission to advertise for and hire a Director of Student Records / Registrar and ratify at the July meeting, and approved the accompanying job description. The position is vacant due to the resignation of Lindsay Yunkus Darnell.
In other business, the board ...
o Heard that total proceeds of $4,578.50, less advertising costs, were earned from the annual obsolete equipment auction held Thursday, May 29.
o Approved the Policy and Procedures Manual as presented (first reading).
o Approved revisions and additions to the Cosmetology Student Handbook and approved the 2008-2009 Student Worker Handbook.
o Approved the Prevailing Rate of Hourly Wages Resolution, which must be done each June.
