The Southern Illinois Volunteerism Conference (SIVC) is quickly approaching.
This year the conference has moved to the Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon, Illinois for the 2008 conference and will be held on Thursday, October 2nd. Over a dozen local and statewide organizations will be setting up displays in the Atrium, while 12 breakout sessions and one lunchtime "bonus session" are being held throughout the conference. Confirmed keynotes include Mark Kiesling, News Anchor, WSIL3-TV (ABC local affiliate), and Dr. Ella Phillips Lacey, Award-winning Peace Corps Volunteer and Retired SIUC Professor. The bonus session will feature Ellen Ferber, Regional Vice President for Hands On Network, the nation's largest volunteer and citizen action network in the nation.
All registration and conference information can be found at www.sivc.net.Registrations will be accepted at the door beginning at 8:00 AM for $25.00 per person, but reduced-cost pre-registration is encouraged by calling Lisa Root at 618-634-3250 before September 12th. Conference fees include a continental breakfast and networking lunch, as well as the exhibit hall and all conference sessions. Continuing Education Units will be offered free of charge through Rend Lake College; participants desiring CEU credits should notify conference staff at the registration table upon check-in to the conference.
"Lighting the Way for Service and Success," the theme for this year's conference, demonstrates the event's goal of providing capacity-building training opportunities to enhance the skills of volunteer leaders and managers in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The conference is also an excellent professional development opportunity for volunteers themselves.
