INA – The curtain will go up Thursday night on Rend Lake College’s fall play, “A Christmas Carol.” Tickets are still available for all performances of the second production to be featured in the newly-renovated RLC Theatre in Ina.
“The show is going to be fun with lots of special lighting, cool ghosts, and a fast-paced production,” said RLC Theatre Director Tracey Webb. “It’s vintage Dickens with a solid Christmas message to all those would-be Scrooge’s and their ‘Bah, Humbugs.’”
The play will open at 7 p.m. Thursday and continue at the same time on Friday and Saturday. The final performance will be a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.
According to Webb, hours of preparation have been spent to make sure the audience has a good time.
The cast list includes Hunter Rue (Mt. Vernon) as the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge and Matt Howard (Benton) as the affable Bob Cratchit. Anthony Pierce of DuQuoin will play the boy Scrooge, and Jared Walker (Benton) will play a young Scrooge from the past and an old Scrooge in the future. Nephew Fred will be played by Levi Overturf (Mt. Vernon), while Brent Peterson (Woodlawn) will fill the role of Marley and Austin Shuster (Wayne City) will play Tiny Tim.
The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come will be played by Benton’s Audrey Blake, Mt. Vernon’s Alexx Brewer and Ashley’s Derek Wintermann, respectively.
Other cast members include Tyler Polley (Christopher) and Derek Campbell (Opdyke) as gentlemen; McCartney Motsinger (Harrisburg) as a caroler and the Orson boy; Chrystal Paige Brown (Ashley) as Caroline and Hobie Graham (Mt. Vernon) as her husband; Aaron Dawson (Benton) as the Valentine boy; Emily Dixon (Pinckneyville) as a fan; Chuck Lawrence (Benton) as Mr. Fezziwig; Katy Wegman (Woodlawn) as Belle; Natasha Groza (Bonnie), Julie Bumpus (Mt. Vernon), Molly Wilson (Mt. Vernon), Justin McCoy (Mt. Vernon), Eric Wakefield (Benton), and Campbell as Fezziwig’s daughters, suitors and party guests; Brooke Meritt (Mt. Vernon), Pierce, Abby Meritt (Mt. Vernon), Sophie Meritt (Mt. Vernon), Lexy Knox (Woodlawn) and Jenny McCollum (Mulkeytown) as the Cratchit family; Dixon and Alexandra Mandrell (Benton) as Julia’s niece and sister; Brent Peterson (Woodlawn) as Topper; Pierce as Ignorance; Knox as Want; Wakefield, T.K. Elimon (Thompsonville) and McCoy as businessmen; Walker as Old Joe; Jean Elimon (Thompsonville) as a chairwoman; Brooke Erwin (Benton) as the undertaker’s woman; and Wilson as the laundress.
“My cast and crew have worked hard to bring a family-fun event to the community,” Webb said. “I’m eager to see what our audience thinks of this beautiful show.”
