MURRAY, Ky. – The Rend Lake Aquatic Youth (RLAY) swim team placed third as a team at the Paducah Swimfest this past weekend at Murray State University in Kentucky.
The Otters, under Head Coach Laura Johnston in their inaugural season, beat seven teams to claim third overall.
Katie Cully (Marion) and Andrew Roberts (Mt. Vernon) swept the 8-and-under girl and boy divisions. They both received a trophy for high point and went undefeated in all 10, 8-and-under events. Aaron Holt was the top finisher in the 100 backstroke, second in the 100 butterfly, and third in both the 200 Individual Medley Relay and 100 freestyle events.
Grace Foltz (Salem) place third overall for the 8-and-under girls division and Collin Laws placed third in the 50 free and 25 free for the 8-and-under boys. Evan Owens (Mt. Vernon) placed third in the 8-under 25 breaststroke while Cully, Meesha Montgomery (Salem), Makoa Montgomery (Salem) and Foltz won the 100 free relay in the 8-and-under girls division.
“This is fantastic considering we have twin sisters swimming who are only 5 years old,” explained head coach Laura Johnston. “Our team placed really well in this meet, considering we only took 24 athletes.”
Allyson Grabowski placed second in the 50 free, 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly, and third in the 50 breast and 100 breast for the 9-10 girls division. The 11-12 girls placed first in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay. Mikaela Montgomery (Salem), Cheyenna Rhine (Benton), Taylor Roberts (Mt. Vernon) and Hannah Owens (Mt.
