Samantha York seated as Student Trustee
Seated Samantha York of McLeansboro as Student Trustee. The Hamilton County Senior High School graduate is an Agricultural Business major, serves on the RLC Student Activities Committee and was a speaker at last year's RLC Foundation Scholarship Dinner. She will take the seat vacated by outgoing Student Trustee Luke Thomas.
Chemistry lab furnishings to be bid
Granted permission to advertise for bids for furnishings for the chemistry lab to accommodate the planned renovation of the lab. Furnishings will include new student lab tables and cabinets for an estimated cost of $48,000.
Clark becomes Programmer / Analyst
Employed Brian Clark as Programmer / Analyst effective April 15. Clark has been employed full-time at RLC as Help Desk / Web Assistant since August 2008. Clark holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
English Lit's Davis to take sabbatical at Canterbury, England
Granted a one-semester sabbatical leave for Fall Semester 2009 for Peggy Davis, English Literature Associate Professor, to Canterbury Christ Church University in England. Davis has been selected by the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs as a visiting faculty member at CCCU for the fall. According to administrative rationale, Davis' experiences at Canterbury will broaden her knowledge of culture and diversity, enriching her English classes with new discussion, examples and perspectives.
Lewis returns to ADN classroom
Accepted with regret the resignation of Kelli Lewis as Allied Health Division Chair and appointed her to the position of Associate Degree Nursing Instructor effective March 17. Lewis taught in this program for five years prior to taking the division's reins in July 2006.
Division Chair Davenport to retire
Accepted with regret the retirement resignation of Barbara Davenport, Chair of the Math, Science, Education, Health and Physical Education Division, effective June 30, 2011. Davenport began teaching as a part-time instructor in 1989 and has been with the college full-time since January 1993, when she was hired as a Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology Instructor. She became Division Chair in 1998.
"I have had the great fortune to create friendships not only in my own division, but also within the college community as a whole, that will last beyond my tenure at Rend Lake College," Davenport wrote in her retirement letter. "I discovered my passion for teaching at Rend Lake College and will forever be grateful to all of my students, who energized me and made me acutely aware of the importance of 'life-long learning.'"
Davis becomes temporary FT at MWPC
Appointed Linda Smith as temporary full-time employee at the Rend Lake College Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus for 12 weeks beginning in mid-May to cover the upcoming FMLA maternity leave of the campus coordinator.
In other business, the board ...
o Approved changes in total credit hours required for the Agricultural Business, Agricultural Mechanics, and Agricultural Production and Management Associate in Applied Science degrees, as well as a new Viticulture course, Spring Viticulture Technology, and authorized their submission to the Illinois Community College Board for action.
o Accepted the bid from Old National Bank for providing banking depository services for the 2010 through 2012 fiscal years. Only two bids were received due to the current negative market conditions, according to administrative rationale.
o Set the out-of-district tuition rate at $121.50 per credit hour beginning with the Fall 2009 semester.
o Approved revisions in FY2009 salary as presented effective March 11. This matter was incorrectly reported at the March 10 Board of Trustees meeting.
