In an effort to better support the students at Rend Lake College's main campus in Ina, the RLC Coffee Shop will be relocating from the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon to the main campus in Ina.
According to Rend Lake College President Charley Holstein, a top request from students in recent months has been the establishment of a coffee shop facility on the Ina campus. College administrators have been in the process of examining RLC's auxiliary programs, looking at ways to improve them and at creative ways to offset any losses. Moving the RLC Coffee Shop to campus meets the needs of both the students and the college.
"By moving this enterprise to the Ina campus, we are able to keep the Coffee Shop as a resource to the college, while meeting a popular request from our student body and being good fiscal managers. The enterprise has suffered at the MarketPlace the past few years and it was time to rethink the use of the resource. Although its absence will be felt by those at the MarketPlace who enjoyed the service, the greater good can be realized on the main campus," Holstein said.
Plans call for the Coffee Shop to be located in the Student Center, and further details are being worked out.
A definite timeline for the relocation has not been set, although the move is expected before end of the year. Officials are making plans for the use of the space formerly occupied by the Coffee Shop at the MarketPlace, where it first set up shop in 2003.
