Professor Kenneth Fugelsang
INA, Ill. – An upcoming Wine Microbiology Workshop from VESTA and Rend Lake College is open to the public and industry, and will feature California State University Professor Kenneth Fugelsang.
The workshop will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, in the Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center’s Great Room. The cost to attend is $40 per person, which includes lunch. Participants also have the option to register for a special dinner reception with Fugelsang for $20 per person.
Fugelsang is a professor of enology, wine microbiologist and winemaster at California State University. He is the author of “Wine Microbiology” and “Wine Analysis and Production.” He received his BA in Zoology and Botany from California State University, Fresno in 1969 and masters in microbiology in 1971 and is the current winemaster and professor of enology for the department.
In 1990, he was awarded the Claude Laval Research Award for Innovative Technology and was also honored by the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology as the Salgo-Noren recipient for excellence in teaching. In 2003, he received the Outstanding Research and Scholarly Activity award by the College, and was named as one of the university’s distinguished alumni (“Top Dogs”) by the College of Sciences and Mathematics in 2004.
He received the 2007 O.I.V.(International Office of the Vine and Wine) award for his enology book, “Wine Microbiology- Practical Applications and Procedures” co-authored by Dr. Charles Edwards of Washington State University in July 2007. His areas of expertise are in wine stability and microbiology.
