INA, Ill. – Rend Lake College is offering area students and community members two exciting opportunities to show some creativity for a chance to win hundreds of dollars in prizes.
A tee-shirt design contest is back for a second year and a short story contest has been introduced to help organizers celebrate and launch The Big Read for the third and final year at the college.
Administered by the National Endowment for the Arts, The Big Read is meant to address the national decline in literary reading. Partners, such as RLC, are able to choose one title from a list of great novels that they would like to promote for readership in their respective communities. RLC has chosen the 1920s crime fiction novel, “The Maltese Falcon,” by Dashiell Hammett.
The tee-shirt design contest is open to anyone. Design entries must be themed around a mystery concept and include the words “The Big Read.”
The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
