BENTON - Rend Lake College is announcing its spring Community Education classes for the Benton area.
Three different Kids in the Kitchen classes are scheduled. They include "Kids in the Kitchen: Valentine's Day," "Kids in the Kitchen: Easter," and "Kids in the Kitchen: Mother's Day." Instructor Nancy Gulley will teach kids how to make fun and creative treats for each special holiday. The Valentine's Day class will be held on Thursday, February 11th from 5:30-7:30p.m., the Easter class will be held on Thursday, March 25th from 5:30-7:30p.m. and the Mother's Day class will be held on Thursday, May 6th from 5:30-7:30p.m. All three classes will be held at Benton Community High School in Room 109. The cost to register is $10 per class. A supply fee of $5 is payable to the instructor at the beginning of each class.
"Antiques" is a class designed for those who like antiques and would like to learn more about them. Instructor Kevin Bailey will help students discover more about collectibles, furniture and vintage items. The class is schedule to meet on Tuesdays, March 2nd through March 23rd from 6-8p.m. The first class meets at Benton Community High School in Room 103. The last three sessions will be held in antique stores in Benton so that participants can view and discuss a variety of items. The registration fee is $40.
Students can discover an art from the past in "Making Lye Soap." Instructor Ruth Daugherty will provide students with recipes, directions, and all ingredients to make and take home 1lb. of lye soap in each of two recipes. A supply fee of $20 payable to the instructor covers all materials. This class will meet on Wednesday, March 10 from 6-9p.m. at Benton Community High School in Room 109. Registration fee is $15. Students need to bring a towel, small cooler, latex gloves, and eye protection.
Students can experience the stunning painting method "One Stroke" from certified instructor, Virginia McCann. "One Stroke Painting: Quick and Easy" will show you basic techniques, combination strokes, insider tips and more. This class is for beginners as well as expert decorative painters. Students will complete their very own masterpiece to take home at the end of class. Classes run on Thursdays, April 8th-April 29th from 6:30-8:30p.m. at Benton Community High School Room 109. The registration fee is $40 and supplies are purchased separately from the instructor at the first class for $15.
Students will learn to knit attractive, durable, and strong dish cloths in "Knitting Dish Cloth." This class is for both beginners and those who already have some knitting experience. For those students with some experience, Instructor Donna Dial will have additional patterns available. Students need to bring one skein of Sugar 'n Cream® cotton yarn and a pair of size 10 knitting needles to class on Tuesdays, April 13th through April 27th from 6-8p.m. at Benton Community High School in Room 109. The registration fee is $30.
