Take a taste tour of Southern France this Friday with a feast professionally prepared and served in style by the Rend Lake College Culinary Arts program.
The theme of this meal, the first in a series of three in the program's Fine Dining Series, is "Savoring Provence." This French comfort food meal begins with a savory onion tartlet with rosemary (pissaladière). Then diners can enjoy their choice of slowly braised coq au vin (chicken and wine), served with Herbes de Provence-infused whipped potatoes and oven-roasted ratatouille; or satisfying bouillabaisse (seafood stew) with baguette croutons spread with creamy rouille. Top it off with a pear tarte tatin and lavender-honey ice cream.
"This is food your French grandmother would make," said student Bobbie Boczek. The dinner will be framed in simple elegance, with themed artwork on display and potted lavender at each table.
The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in the Private Dining Room in the Student Center on the Rend Lake College campus in Ina. Dinners are $20 per person by reservation only. For reservations, call Jean Huie at (618) 437-5321, Ext. 1247.
