INA, Ill. – Phi Theta Kappa All-USA nominees from the Rend Lake College Rho Xi chapter will be heading to Springfield later this month for the annual honor society event. Representing RLC this year are Karissa Johnson of Mt. Vernon and Emma Talbert of Wayne City.
Johnson is a sophomore and daughter of Kenneth and Lettie Johnson. She wants to go into actuarial science, which is the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in the insurance and finance industries. She plans to transfer from RLC to Truman State University in Kirksville, Miss.
Being selected as one of the recipients for PTK’s All-USA Community College Academic Team scholarships would be very helpful in reaching her educational goals, she said.
“It would help pay for the next two years of college. I’m going to be struggling next year. I’m going to be broke. So, it would help.”
Talbert is a sophomore and daughter of Rick and LaDonna Talbert. She wants to enroll as an accounting major at Eastern Illinois University after RLC.
“I feel greatly honored to represent Rend Lake,” she said.
Twenty students are chosen each year for the national team, each receiving a $2,500 stipend and medallion as recognition as an outstanding two-year college student.
