INA, Ill. - Nationally recognized speaker Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP, gave a presentation titled "Polypharmacy in the Older Adult" today during a continuing education workshop for nurses held at Rend Lake College.
A large number of RLC nursing students were in attendance as Bancroft delivered important information and updates regarding patient care relating to drug administration. Her style of delivery offered current and future nurses a light-hearted approach to heavy issues in the healthcare field.
Bancroft has provided more than 2,200 continuing education seminars on topics pertaining to pathophysiology, physical assessment, nutrition, and pharmacology to health care professionals throughout the United States and Canada. She has been the keynote speaker for the Association of Practitioners for Infection Control, the National Association of Biology Teachers, the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, the Emergency Nurses' Association, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Faculty positions she has held span universities in Virginia, Arkansas and Illinois. Her courses on Advanced Pathophysiology, Pharmacology and Physical Assessment have been valuable tools for graduate and undergraduate students. She has won numerous awards for excellence in teaching including the Distinguished Professor award from the National Association of Biology Teachers and the Entrepreneurial Leadership Centennial Award from the University of Virginia.
Bancroft is the author of "Medical Minutiae," "An Apple a Day: The ABCs of Diet and Disease," "Live a Little, Laugh a Lot." She is currently working on her latest book, "Bite Me: The ABCs of Bites and Disease" and "Shampoos, Tattoos, and Barbeques: The ABCs of Infectious Disease."
The workshop continued into the afternoon with another guest speaker, Dr. Richelle Rennegarbe, chair of nursing at McKendree University. Her presentation was titled "Nursing: Our Successes and Future Role in Health Care."
