Tuition rates set for Fiscal Year 2012
Approved an increase in the in-district tuition rate from $85 per credit hour to $93 per credit hour beginning with the Summer 2011 term. The out-of-district rate will be set at a later date.
According to administrative rationale, the increase is necessary in order to meet the forecasted budgetary needs of the college in light of the fact that RLC is expecting to receive decreased amounts of funding from the state and to maintain non-deficit spending. The state currently owes the college about $5.5 million. The increase will allow RLC to remain competitive with its peer group schools and to maintain its stature as one of the most affordable community colleges in the state.
Stallman becomes TRIO Director
Appointed Leah Stallman as TRIO Director effective Jan. 12. This position was created to combine the positions of Director of Upward Bound and Director of Student Support Services. Stallman has served as the interim TRIO Director since February 2010 and has demonstrated the necessary leadership and organizational skills to be effective in this position, according to administrators.
Group health insurance proposals to be sought
Granted permission to request proposals for group health insurance coverage for all eligible Rend Lake College employees. According to college administration, RLC currently is self-funded as part of the Community College Insurance Consortium. While RLC remains satisfied with the current plan, administrators believe it would be in the best interest of all parties involved to seek competitive proposals at this time to perhaps realize financial gains. The requests for proposals will be for comparison with the current plan design, which expires on June 30, 2011.
ERP expenses to be reimbursed
Approved a resolution expressing the college's intent to be reimbursed for expenditures incurred from institutional funds at a future date following a bond issuance for the purchase of a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system effective Jan. 11. The resolution will allow the expenses to be included in the upcoming bond issuance on a tax-exempt basis. The passage of the resolution in no way binds the college to the issuance of any future bonds or other debt instruments. An ERP system is a computer system which integrates many of the functions of the college and provides for streamlined operations.
