GED Program enrolling for spring semester at RLC

INA, Ill. (Dec. 19, 2013) – Start the New Year with a new you by enrolling in Rend Lake College’s Adult Education GED Program. Classes are never too far away, with six locations in the RLC district, and enrollment in the program is free.

Along with the New Year comes several changes to the National GED test. The test will better prepare adults without a high school diploma for higher education and the workforce. This new test includes a new website that is a one-stop resource for students with personalized study plans and skills assessments. To visit the new website, go to

Some changes to the test include options to take one test at a time as compared to one 8-hour sitting, to pay for one test at a time and to be notified immediately of test results.

Registration and classes begin Monday, Jan. 13 and Tuesday, Jan. 14. Students are required to attend both days.

The GED morning classes are held from 9 a.m. until noon at the following locations: Benton Library, RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon and the RLC Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus. Evening classes are held from 6 pm until 9 pm at the following locations: Benton Community High School, the RLC MarketPlace and Christopher High School. Additional classes will be held at the McLeansboro Family Resource Center. For class times contact the Adult Education and Family Literacy office.

In addition to preparing for the test, the Adult Education and Family Literacy Department helps students apply for financial aid and enroll in college courses. RLC transition coordinators work individually with students in all aspects of the GED and college experience.

You go to it,’ and that’s what we aim to do at Rend Lake College – bring the education to the student in the form of continuing education,” said Vickie Golliher, Coordinator in the Adult Education and Family Literacy Department.

Rend Lake College’s Adult Education and Family Literacy Program provides relevant and accessible educational opportunities for adult learners to help them succeed at work, home and in their communities.
