MOUNT VERNON, Ill.–Rend Lake College Community and Corporate Education will be offering a class on women’s self-defense and handgun safety at the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon.

Women’s Self-Defense and Handgun Safety will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, April 20 and 27. This class will focus on basic self-defense skills, safe gun handling, and basic marksmanship. After teaching the types and functions of different handguns, RLC Criminal Justice Instructor Ron Meek and Capt. Jeff Bullard of the Mt. Vernon Police Department will help students learn how to maximize ability to deliver accurate hits with a handgun.  

The class will also cover weapons presentation, ready positions, loading and unloading, malfunction clearances, carry positions, and more. The first session will be held at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon in Room 343 and the second session will be held at the police shooting range in Mt. Vernon.

Handguns and supplies will be provided. Participants must be at least 21 years old. The registration fee for the course is $89.
