INA, Ill. – Rend Lake College Community and Corporate Education will be offering a series of home improvement courses for people who would like to save money by learning the basics.

Weatherization will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 22. This course is designed to show participants how to protect a home from both cold and hot weather. Instructor Wayne Kulich will be sharing small tricks that can help reduce energy costs. Topics will include how to replace a door or window, how to check for airflow and how to stop it.

Basic Plumbing will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 20. This class will cover how to replace faucet seals and faucets; toilet wax rings, flaps, and floats; plumbing under sinks and the importance of the trap. Students will also gain an understanding of PVC/CPVC versus copper water lines and learn how to control water hammering.

Basic Electrical will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Saturday, Nov. 17. Participants will learn how to replace/install electrical outlets, electrical switches, and light fixtures; how to replace electrical plug-ins or outlets on electrical cords; and gain a basic understanding of the circuit box and how to replace circuit breakers.    

These home improvement courses can be taken as a series or individually. The registration fee is just $15 per class session. Sign up for all three classes and receive a $5 discount! Each class will be held in the Vocational Building Room 103 at RLC's main campus in Ina.
