INA, Ill. (Sept. 10, 2012) – The upcoming Illinois College Exposition at Rend Lake College is a great way for parents and students to size up colleges and universities they are considering. The event is free to attend and will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the RLC gym.

More than 40 colleges and universities from across the country will be recruiting area students at this event. The institutions on the list this year can be found below.

ICE, sponsored by the Illinois Association of College Admission Counselors (IACAC), offers parents and students an outstanding opportunity to meet face-to-face with representatives of colleges and universities, inside and outside Illinois. This rewarding and informative event hosted by RLC is a must for students looking to further their education.

“Illinois College Expositions have served as an excellent opportunity by allowing colleges and universities to have a central location within our district for students, who are in the midst of their college decision process, to ask and receive answers to their individual questions from school representatives," said RLC Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management Jason Swann. "ICE allows students and parents alike to take advantage of the fact that these colleges come to them. It’s like a buffet dinner of college information.”

The ICE Fair will be packed with information about schools. Participants will have the opportunity to gather literature, ask questions and learn about programs and activities at schools they like.

Evidence suggests that good planning and thorough research of options enhances the chances of a good match between the student and the post-secondary institution. That is why college officials recommend parents spend some time with their son or daughter prior to attending the ICE Fair in order to explore some of the reasons for continuing education after high school. Ideally, parents will be able to attend with their children. However, if this isn’t possible, the ICE Fair is still a valuable event for a student to attend without a parent.

Mark Sept. 18 on the calendar and take a big step in preparing for the future by attending the ICE Fair at RLC. Additional information is available by calling 618-437-5321, Ext. 1265.
