BENTON, Ill. (Jan. 14, 2020) — Looking to get rid of unused or expired medication? A Prescription Drug Take-Back day is planned for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Benton.
Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps (at Rend Lake College) is partnering with RSVP of Southern Illinois and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office to host this event where people can bring unused or outdated prescription drugs for safe disposal. The sheriff’s office is located at 403 E. Main St., Benton.
“This event gives people an outlet to dispose of their outdated or unused prescription drugs,” said Megan Rounds, Director of Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps. “These drugs could be harmful to the environment if thrown in the trash or they could fall into the wrong hands, especially narcotics. This event has an impact and helps us educate the public on the dangers of holding on to prescription drugs.”
Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps is a partnership between four colleges — RLC, John A. Logan College, Kaskaskia College and Southern Illinois University Carbondale — with the goal of helping link college students to service programs in their communities.
