Henry Cockrum wins Science Stone Drawing

Henry Cockrum Science Stone 2019INA, Ill. (Sept. 11, 2019) - Henry Cockrum, a second grader from Wittington, was this year's Search for the Science Stones grand prize winner. Cockrum will have a 12-credit hour academic award to attend Rend Lake College waiting for him when the time comes. The Search for the Science Stones project is a collaborative effort between RLC and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Cockrum is pictured with RLC President Terry Wilkerson, left, and US Army Corps Operations Manager Jackie Taylor, right.

For 10 weeks, Army Corps personnel hid special painted stones around the lake and issued clues to its whereabouts via social media. Intrepid young treasure hunters would search for the stones and then return them to the Rend Lake Project Office for a prize. This year saw 134 participants flock to the lake to take part in the hunt. Click for a larger view.
