CARBONDALE, Ill. – Rend Lake College found some success on the indoor track this past weekend in Carbondale. It was coach Eric Alberter and the Warriors’ season opener at the 2012 Southern Illinois University Saluki Open, featuring teams like SIUC, Murray State, Missouri State, Missouri Baptist and more.
RLC freshman Micah Washington (Arkansas) finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet and 6 inches. In the 60 meter dash, Demarcus Brooks (Springfield) took second in 6.79 seconds while Tremaine Gordon (Evanston) tied Jackson State’s Richard Kelly for sixth place in 6.98. Brooks took fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.25) with Gordon coming in sixth (22.55). Also in the 200, Lamar Blandon (Waukegan) finished 23rd (23.31) and Chris James (Kentwood, Mich.)was 26th (23.36).
Sammie Bybe (Akin) came in 25th (2:59.81) and Kristina Wilson (Sparta) 26th (3:05.05) in the 800m. Sophmore Aleigh Eggemeyer (Walsh) finished 20th in the mile run (5:52.83).
Maurice Taylor II (Baltimore) came in ninth in the 400 (51.69) and Tyler Kiefer (Sparta) finished 31st (1:00.17). Holland Sherrer (Bridgetown, N.J.) took third in the 800m with a time of 1:58.86 and teammate Dameon Morgan (Edwardsville) finished seventh in the race in 2:00.30. In the mile run, David Lambus (St. Louis) was ninth in 4:25.93 and Tivosiel Rivera (Swedesboro, N.J.) was 23rd in 4:48.66. Lambus finished 23rd in the 3,000m in 9:23.80.
After finishing second in the prelims with a time of 8.30, James struggled in the finals, dropping to eighth with a time of 8.55. However, teammate Fred Roberts (Maple Heights) finished fourth in the finals with a time of 8.30.
RLC’s 4x400 relay team of Anthony Golowach (Cary), Maurice Sapp (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Sherrer and Morgan finished fourth in 3:28.58.
Shon Kyle (Imperial, Mo.) took eighth with a throw of 48 feet and 11.75 inches in the shot put and Jeff Stewart (Broughton) took 10th with a best of 48 feet, 0.5 inches. In the weight throw, Kyle took 16th with a mark of 46-04.25.
