MARION, Ill. – Anna-Jonesboro High School senior short stop Fallon Clayton signed her national letter of intent Monday night to play softball for Dave Ellingsworth at Rend Lake College in the fall.
Clayton was joined at the Future Swings training facility in Marion - where her signing was held - by parents Willy and Diane Clayton, Ellingsworth, and Future Swings owner Todd Poe.
Clayton was named to the First Team All-River to River Conference, the All-South team and Third Team All-State as a junior short stop in 2011. As a freshman, she was the 2009 River to River Rookie of the Year and was named Second Team All-Conference while helping her team to the conference, regional and sectional titles. In 2010, her sophomore season, she repeated as a Second Team All-River to River selection. She has played travel ball for Midland Magic since 2010. Prior to that, she played for the Southern Express travel team from 2005-2009.
“I expect her to come in and contribute right away at a middle-infield position,” Ellingsworth said. “She has good speed and, looking at her slugging percentage and home runs, she obviously has good power.”
Clayton led A-J in both columns in 2011 and has hit in the mid .300s throughout high school. She is the fourth recruit signed by Ellingsworth so far this year. Previous recruits include catcher/outfielder Abbie Lehman of Marissa, pitcher Paige Prather of Evansville Central and outfielder Magen Edwards of DuQuoin.
