INA, Ill. (Aug. 13, 2013) – Ashley Sexton of Anderson, Ind., signed a national letter of intent this morning to play golf at Rend Lake College. Sexton is the fifth incoming freshman for Head Coach Cindy Corn this fall.
Sexton is the daughter of Rod and Laura Sexton. She graduated in May from Yorktown High School after a banner senior season with the Lady Tigers. The team went undefeated in their 2012 season and won the 40th Annual IHSAA Girls’ Golf State Finals at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Ind. Sexton tied for 36th (84-80-164).
At RLC, Sexton said she is hoping to stand out among the four other incoming Lady Warrior freshmen and help advance the team to the national tournament. She added that the program and coach are why she chose a program more than four hours from home.
“Coach [Corn] is great and she has a great personality. I also really like the program,” said Sexton.
Corn added that Sexton will make a good and competitive fit for the team.
“Competition-wise, I think she’s going to be a great fit,” said Corn. “We have five incoming freshmen and she’s going to be a team member who pushes everyone else to do better, and do better herself. She’s going to get a lot of exposure and playing experience here at Rend Lake, and a lot more attention to her game and education.”
Sexton said she plans to major in pre-dentistry while at RLC. Though she wasn’t sure about what will come in a year, plans to transfer to a four-year university are a definite.
