INA, Ill. – Five student-athletes at Rend Lake College earned postseason recognition in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association Region XXIV.
RLC sophomore center fielder Samantha Watkins has been named All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference in softball. Watkins, 20, of Johnston City, hit .307 and led the Lady Warriors in RBI this past season. She was a 2011 NJCAA All-Region XXIV Outfield selection as a freshman.
Four Warriors represent RLC on the NJCAA All-Region XXIV baseball team. They are Jordan Fortner, Justin Busekrus, Nick Andros and Andrew Edwards.
Fortner, a 19-year-old sophomore first baseman and outfielder from Decatur, was chosen All-Region XXIV. Fortner hit .342 with four home runs and 32 RBI in the spring season.
Freshman outfielder Busekrus, 19, of O’Fallon, was selected All-Region XXIV. Busekrus had one home run and 32 RBI, averaging .353 in the regular season.
RLC sophomore ace Edwards, 20, of Gilbertsville, Ky., was named to the NJCAA All-Region XXIV team. The 6-5, 250 pound right-hander logged 69 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.02 in 62.1 innings for the Warriors in the regular season.
Andros, 19, of Goreville, was also tapped for NJCAA All-Region XXIV honors. The freshman left-hander finished the regular season with a 2.75 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 52.1 innings.
