Evening Program Option
Designed for working adults looking for an exciting new career, Studio RLC also offers an evening format. This program can be completed in 21 months by attending classes in the evenings. As with the daytime program, classes are held at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon, but clinicals may be held in alternate locations.
Classes typically will be held four nights per week, with some Saturday clinical work required. Contact Studio RLC for up-to-date scheduling information.
Cosmetology / Cosmetology Teacher
Get creative, get trendy and get going with Rend Lake College’s Cosmetology program. Earn an occupational certificate in just one year at Studio RLC, the college’s Cosmetology school and full-service salon located at the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon.
Expert instructors train students in the basics of hair cutting and styling and work up to the latest, hottest trends. Services covered include shampooing, cutting, coloring and styling. Students also will learn other facets of the industry, including facials, nail care and excellent customer service.
Students apply what they learn by working with real clients at Studio RLC under the supervision of instructors. The real-world experience gained here is an excellent benefit.

There is almost no limit to the places cosmetology can take a person. While many cosmetologists work in salons or open their own salons, many find work at spas, hotels and resorts.
The job placement potential, along with the diverse career opportunities available within the beauty industry, makes for a very attractive consideration. In addition to hair design, our industry offers opportunities in make-up, fashion photography, product education, platform artistry and salon management. The college tries to assist individuals who demonstrate financial need, and in most cases, financial aid is available. The college has been approved as a participating institution for grants made by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission and also is approved for federal student aid programs, including veterans benefits. Locally endowed scholarships are available to full-time students through the Rend Lake College Foundation.

Total = 50 Hours
A one-year program leading to an Occupational Certificate in Cosmetology. Typical graduates will work as hair dressers in chain or independent salons or open their own salons. The curriculum emphasizes practical, hands-on experience with the latest styles, trends and techniques.
Students will be expected to attend class five days per week for up to eight hours per day. Some Saturday clinical work is to be expected. An evening format, which can be completed in 21 months, also is available.
A limited number of slots will be available to be filled during any enrollment period. The program prepares students to take the Illinois Cosmetologist licensure exam.

A short-term Occupational Certificate designed to prepare individuals for positions teaching Cosmetology. Typical graduates will work as instructors in Cosmetology programs in either community colleges or private schools.
Students with two years of practical experience as a Licensed Cosmetologist are required to complete 500 clock hours of instruction. Those with less than two years of practical experience are required to complete 1,000 clock hours of instruction.
A limited number of slots will be available to be filled during any enrollment period. The program prepares students to take the Illinois Cosmetologist Teacher licensure exam.
